After seeing record breaking wind speeds and red weather warnings throughout the last week due to Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin, our teams have ensured that public safety has continued to be Milestone’s number one priority.
In total: 2,533 Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin Emergency Responses were carried out over the weekend across our contracts.
Cambridgeshire: 119 tree emergencies
Hampshire: 748 emergencies, as well as in excess of 2,750 calls/emails/web form contacts from MOPs
Devon: 1,100+ emergencies
North Somerset: 20 emergencies
Somerset: 281 emergencies
Oxfordshire: 265 emergencies
Additional support was provided from our Street Lighting Teams who mobilised in providing road closures and roving operatives to be on hand for our highway teams across the country.
As a result, we received some great feedback from one of our clients:
Meg Booth, Chief Officer for Highways, Infrastructure Development and Waste, Devon County Council commented: “I am always amazed at how people pull together as a team when we get into these crisis situations and the past 72 hours has been a really good example of that with the weather almost throwing everything it can at us – and we still manage to respond. I know that Stuart Hughes [Executive Member for Highway Management, Devon County Council] has been really pleased with the response and has offered his thanks and amazement over what we have got through, and a number of other Councillors have also reported their thanks.”
Jim Daughton, Operations Director, Milestone commented: “Once again, our teams across Milestone came together to deliver a fantastic response to Storm Eunice. They provided an invaluable service in the way they dealt with the many incidents across our contracts, during some of the worst weather conditions seen for decades! It was a hugely impressive response – during not only the storm itself, but also the during the major clean-up operation which followed. We have received many positive accolades from our clients, who recognise the efforts everyone put in to keeping the various networks safe and clear, in extremely challenging circumstances. Ably supported by our team in the Central Service Control, we are both proud and grateful for the ongoing efforts of our teams and the way they continue to deliver the highest quality service.”
