We are celebrating two of our team members on our Oxfordshire Highways Contract, Josh Jones and Macy Richards, who have been shortlisted in the ‘Rising Star’ category at the Highways Heroes Awards.
The awards, which take place on 28 November 2024 at London Hilton Park Lane, recognise those who have gone above and beyond to help someone or improve a situation, either in the communities they work in, or to support fellow workers in their team.
Josh Jones completed his level two Skilled Highways Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship with us in 2023 and is a much-valued member of our team. Josh takes the time to mentor other apprentices in all works, including relaying slabs, blocks, ironworks and reinstatements.
Josh has worked hard to independently problem solve and keep everyone safe. His mentoring of other apprentices, as well as his work with local schools, supports our commitment to social value and we are delighted to have Josh as part of our team.
We are thrilled that Macy Richards has also been shortlisted in the ‘Rising Star’ category. A trainee civil engineer, studying for a Level Six Degree Apprenticeship, Macy is inspirational in the way she focuses on developing the business and supporting our local communities.
Macy leads our ‘Graduate and Trainee Forum’ , a peer support network for early career colleagues, as well as being a chair for our wellbeing and charity fundraising working group on the contract.
Macy is an OxLEP apprenticeship ambassador, who regularly goes into schools to talk about her experiences as an apprentice and why students should consider a career in civil engineering. She has also recently taken part in a ‘career stereotypes’ event, encouraging students to consider career pathways they may not have otherwise considered.
Good luck to all the finalists and everyone who goes above and beyond to support the communities in which they work. We look forward to celebrating with you in November!
