Milestone Infrastructure, a part of M Group Services’ Transport Division, has been appointed Principal Contractor for the Ringwood Road development project in Poole, on behalf of BCP Council.
The project, which commenced on 2 September with a completion date in 2026, represents a significant development opportunity supported by the UK Government’s Transforming Cities Fund*, to upgrade travel routes for the local community.
Milestone will use its expertise to deliver major bus, walking, cycling and road improvements, to enhance transportation options, promote sustainable travel and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
The scope of work includes the installation of two new bus lanes, junction improvements, landscaping and the planting of trees, supporting local biodiversity. 4.5km of road will be resurfaced and 1.8km of pavements will be improved.
In line with the business’ commitment to provide social value in the communities in which it works, Milestone will provide local employment opportunities, promote active travel and find opportunities to educate schools in the area about wellbeing, exercise and cycle safety.
The execution of this project will support the council’s commitment to decarbonise its transport network by providing facilities to help meet its target of 50% of local journeys being made by walking, cycling or public transport by 2030.
Sean Murphy, Regional Director at Milestone Infrastructure, said: “We are excited to have been awarded this significant project by BCP Council, through the Hampshire Gen 4 Framework. Our successful completion of Stage 1 Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) demonstrates our commitment to excellence in collaboration. We look forward to delivering transformative infrastructure that will benefit the local community and enhance sustainable travel options.”
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy at BCP Council, said: “Milestone Infrastructure is an extremely experienced highway maintenance provider with a strategic focus on safer, greener highways; I am delighted they are delivering this significant project.
“Ringwood Road in Poole is one of our region’s busiest roads, with traffic volumes at saturation point, and a worn-out surface. With major resurfacing taking place alongside a range of other enhancements, these ambitious improvements will transform travel options and improve journeys for everyone.
“Collectively these measures aim to encourage more people to walk, wheel or use public transport, freeing up the roads for those that really need to use them.”
