Milestone Infrastructure, a part of M Group Services’ Transport Division, has secured a contract to maintain and deliver street lighting across Gloucestershire, on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council.

The £13.5m street lighting contract, which commenced on 3 August 2024, will continue for five and a half years, with the option to be extended for 10 years.

Milestone will be responsible for maintaining over 62,000 streetlights and 8,000 illuminated signs and bollards located on the highway network within Gloucestershire. Works undertaken will include lighting outages, annual cyclical maintenance and the completion of an annual programme of streetlighting replacements for expired equipment.

The new award builds on Milestone’s longstanding, nine-year relationship with Gloucestershire County Council to maintain existing equipment and deliver a LED replacement project.

This has resulted in a more reliable service, reducing lighting outages by 50% and energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 70%.

Simon Woodford, Milestone Infrastructure’s Business Director for Street Lighting, said: “I’m extremely proud to continue our partnership with Gloucestershire County Council to deliver this key service across the county. Our teams are ready 24/7, 365 days a year to attend faults and emergencies, keeping the county in light, reducing carbon emissions and protecting the communities in which we work.”

Cllr Dom Morris, Cabinet Member for Highways and Flooding said: “We look forward to working with Milestone over the next 5.5 years to create smoother and brighter journeys for everyone in Gloucestershire.”

Throughout this framework, Milestone will continue to work with Gloucestershire County Council in its shared commitment to reach the councils, and its own, carbon strategy aspirations. Milestone is committed to reaching net zero across all its operations, including its supply chain, by 2040.
