Milestone Infrastructure (‘Milestone’), a part of M Group Services, has agreed a three-year contract extension to continue providing maintenance services for highway infrastructure around Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset.
The extension is the first win for the company since it was acquired by M Group Services, a leading provider of services to essential infrastructure markets in the UK, on 01 May this year.
The contract was originally due to end in August 2021 and will now be extended for a further three years by agreement between EDF and Milestone Infrastructure.
Hinkley Point C is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK for more than 20 years and will provide low carbon electricity for around six million homes. The construction site is one of the largest in Europe, creating thousands of jobs. Milestone will provide essential infrastructure facilities including building, and maintaining main roads, access roads, and footpaths associated with the project.
The contract is delivered by the Somerset Infrastructure Alliance (SIA) and combined with alliance partners, consists of a team of 85 people. The services provided include:
- Minor infrastructure works including surfacing, drainage, fencing and kerbing
- Installing and maintaining around 4km of specialist walkway systems and 200 scaffold structures for managed walkways and access routes
- Creating and managing land and green spaces at the site
- Police accredited abnormal and incidental loads escorting service from Combwich Wharf to the main Hinkley Point C site
- Litter picking, cleansing, road sweeping and safety defects repairs to the main Hinkley Point C site and associated developments
In addition to the core service provision, the Hinkley Point C contract facilitates the direct award of scheme work at both the main Hinkley Point C site and in the surrounding area. This provides the opportunity for the scheme’s delivery team to secure additional revenue though project work awarded through this contract.
Adrian Cooke, Managing Director of Milestone Infrastructure, commented: “I am delighted to announce the extension of the Hinkley Point C contract for another three years, especially as it is our first extension secured as Milestone Infrastructure. It is testament to our reputation, the level of service and quality of work that we have already delivered during the last five years and the strong working relationship we have with our client, EDF, for such an important project.
“Our aim as Milestone Infrastructure is to be the first choice for maintaining critical infrastructure and I am confident that the extension to this contract will be the first of many for our business. We are ambitious for our future and are committed to working collaboratively with our clients, delivering high quality services, and developing solutions that add value to their customers and the communities they serve.”
