Milestone Infrastructure, a part of M Group Services’ Transport Division, has achieved accreditation to the PAS 2080 carbon management standard, after passing its audit by the British Standards Institution.
As part of its commitment to reducing carbon, Milestone has achieved accreditation against the new version of the standard, released in April 2023. PAS 2080 sets out specific whole-life carbon management requirements for asset owners/managers (clients), designers, constructors, and product/material suppliers.
The audit assessed Milestone’s compliance with the requirements for designer and constructor roles at an organisational level. Milestone invited other value chain members into the audit as part of its dedication to collaboratively working together to reduce carbon.
Adrian Cooke, Managing Director at Milestone Infrastructure, said: “We are extremely proud of our organisational PAS 2080 accreditation, achieving it two years ahead of the target date we set ourselves within the Milestone Environment Strategy. This accreditation reflects the low carbon work taking place across our business, as well as the ongoing collaboration with our clients and supply chain to make significant progress against our joint carbon reduction targets. We recognise this external certification of our carbon management capabilities as a critical step in supporting the delivery of our Safer, Greener Highways Business Plan.”
Milestone has formed a PAS 2080 working group, made up of representatives from different contracts, projects and functions, to develop a leading carbon management approach. This has enabled reductions in both absolute carbon emissions and carbon intensity across its operations (including supply chain) as part of continued progress towards the overarching target of net zero emissions by 2040.
Recently, Milestone held its first PAS280 workshop, with its client, Oxfordshire County Council, to share lessons learnt from the accreditation process and identify opportunities to better align contract processes with the PAS 2080 standard requirements. This was also attended by one of our other clients, National Highways, who are accredited against the PAS 2080 standard in the capacity of asset owner/manager.
Milestone is committed to protecting the environment and finding ways to make its operations more sustainable to ensure a future of safer, greener highways.
